Ever since Arkas Trio was established in 2011 as the first piano trio to be sponsored by a corporation, the ensemble has mesmerized audiences and music critics alike with the trio’s first-class performance and the musical skill exhibited in its concerts.
Arkas Trio has garnered critical acclaim with concerts the ensemble has put on at all the prominent festivals in Turkey (the Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Mersin International Music Festivals) and has also made a big impression with previous performances that were accompanied by the Istanbul State Symphony and the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra.
Arkas Trio performed its first foreign concert at a special night organized by Turkish and German businessmen at Hotel Adlon in Berlin. The trio’s goal is to perform well-known classical repertoire as well as lesser-known pieces of chamber music.
After successful concert seasons, esteemed composer Kamran Ince was asked to compose a special work for Arkas Trio. The result of his effort was “Fortuna Sepio Nos”, which the trio world-premiered in January 2014 at the Süreyya Opera House in Istanbul.
Ever since Arkas Trio was established, the ensemble has attracted attention with its impressive concerts as well as by premiering a number of musical works in Turkey. The trio performed the Turkish premier of Martinu’s Trio Concertino with the Başkent Academic Orchestra in Ankara, followed by Fazıl Say’s trio titled “Space Jump” in Izmir.
Arkas Trio is known for its unique concert performances and thematic repertoires, such as the ensemble’s performance at Santa Maria Church in Izmir after Arkas Holding had the organ restored following 50 years of disuse. Prof. Johnannes Geffert, one of the most significant organists of his generation, was invited to play the organ in this 19th century building and accompany the trio members in two unforgettable concerts.
Another meaningful concert was a moving performance of music written by prominent female composers in honor of World Women’s Week in an event held at the Ahmed Adnan Saygun Art Center in Izmir, which was organized in conjunction with the Izmir Commodity Exchange and the TOBB Women Entrepreneurs Association.
Arkas Trio put on its second foreign concert in Saarland, Germany. This concert was recorded by Saarland Television for use in a documentary film. Arkas Trio’s third foreign concert was held in Cologne, as the troupe continues to have international impact.
Lastly, Arkas Trio and Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra met the audience at the Celsus Library in Ephesus within the scope of the 29th International Izmir Festival.
Arkas Trio is made up of violinist Tuncay Yılmaz and pianist Emre Elivar, rare Turkish virtuosos known as leading musicians of their generation and who have won prizes and awards in international competitions, and Gustav Rivinius, a German cellist who gained recognition after winning the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition. This group is working non-stop as the members prepare for upcoming concerts.
